a lone mosquito buzzes

in a brushy pasture

the whole orchard

squirrels everywhere

as I write out the check

noticing late roses

at traffic light

up here, far above
the cloud topped mountains

(Just got back from a brief trip to Santa Barbara, California, checking out a retirement residence in Goleta, which is actually looking like a very possible move for me.)

through the night
the wind -
leaves scratching the sidewalk

dad whistles as he hones

tourists
at the U-pick pumpkin patch
the old ones
have such brittle stems
and dry withered leaves

from tiny acorns
mighty oak trees grow.. an old
autumnal cliché!

autumn wind chases

away the sun's warmth, clinging

to colorful leaves

losing their grip~

she shows her age softly

late bloom

intrepid flower
bursting forth five months beyond
bloom out of season

rainy fall day
copper and golden leaves
fill the flower pots

the music
of ankle-deep leaves -
a new moon peeps out

crisp day
enjoying my favorite sweater
during morning walk

i can only hope

frosty morning -
out from a jar
the dried lavender's blue breath

in green field
flock of early egrets
feasting on treasures
