The image is from a time when I was haiku poet-in-residence at the U.K.'s largest celebration of natural history, Festival of Nature 2004. I was paid to visit schools around the South West of England with my haiku fieldbook, and get everyone doing ginko!

those who've gone before

life mimics in the season

leaves blanket the ground

warmth

the warmth commandment:
pajamas, woollen blankets
thou shalt not duvet

intrepid flower
bursting forth five months beyond
bloom out of season

Hampstead Haiku

walking Hampstead Heath
the distant city sirens
are rarely silent

Stone

this stone has a face
it says to me, "get outside
while the weather's good!"

Ramsgate

we took the train to
Ramsgate, celebrating Eid
